BEST LAID PLANS.....

We were hoping it wouldn't rain, but alas it did. And how!
In fact at one point golf ball sized hail came down also.

Still that didn't dampen (sic) our spirits or those who came over to our 1st yard sale and BBQ.

We had some great bargins and though the weather may not have co-operated that didn't stop anyone from enjoying the day.

Our owner cooked hambers, sauguages and even ribs for everyone and we all ate in the office as the rain came down laughing and sharing jokes making friends along the way.

And isn't that the true meaning of community anyways?

Special thanks to all the sellers who braved the on and off again rains - we will do it again and hopefully it will be a great sunny day.

Halloween 2009

On October 31^st of this year, All Canadian Self Storage hosted a great community Halloween party in our facilities at our Scarborough location. Our event was a roaring success,s with our staff spending many weeks preparing all the details that would make it a success for the community and our company.

This year we partnered with a local charity, Arising Women Place, a local shelter for women escaping domestic abuse. All funds raised at our event were donated to this worthy charity, and enabled them to purchase a new computer.

Staff dressed up and brought friends and family to participate in the fun afternoon. The afternoon featured lots of fun activities and attractions for kids and families. Families could tour through haunted storage lockers while a magic show and bouncy castle entertained the smaller children.

Local fire and police arrived giving the kids a chance to explore the fire engine and police car. Firemen and police shared safety information and stories with many eager children. Inside our front office, customers had a chance to warm up with our hot chocolate and sweet treats, as well as bid on some wonderful silent auction items.

Before the children left, each was given a candy bag for their fun trick and treating experience

Overall we had over 150 families visit our facility and participate in our Halloween festivities. We now plan to make this an annual event for our community.

HALLOWEEN PARTY JUST 2 WEEKS AWAY

Hello everyone:

Our Halloween Party is just 2 weeks away and we are truly excited about here in Scarborough.

This year it is going to be big. How big you ask? Well for one we are giving away a flat screen tv to one lucky winner.

Also we will be having a silent auction where all of the proceeds go to Arising Women's Place.

Halloween Party October 31st 2009

Hello:

I can't believe it is less than 17 days away from our Halloween Party here at our Scarborough Facility. We have been promoting it like crazy and it looks like it is going to be huge.

We will start it around 2 pm and have goodies and activities for the kids.

You can bid on the silent auction items (remember all money collected from the silent auction will be donated to Arising Women's Place) and tour the facility there will be a haunted house and other tricks and treat out there if you dare.

At 6:00pm we will draw 10 names from all the entries we received and each of those 10 will get a key to a storage unit.
One unit has the TV in it and the one who opens it, wins it.

It should be a lot of fun for the entire family.

Halloween Comes To All Canadian Self Storage

On Friday October 31st, All Canadian Self Storage held its first annual Halloween Party.
By all accounts it was a very scary success!

We had candies and treats for all the ghosts and goblins. We had a haunted graveyard, frightful magic and a haunted storage unit complete with screaming bats, spiders and zombies.

We even had a strange visitor coming out of the woods looking for storage. (What kind I could not say though).

All Canadian Self Storage also gave away two gold seats to a Toronto Maple Leafs Home Game valued at $400.

We are also able to fill up an entire container of Food for the West Hill Community Food Bank.

All Canadian Self Storage thanks everyone who came out and made our 1st Halloween Party such a roaring success and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Arising Women

Recently Camille and I had the great fortune to meet Annie Zawadi, the executive director of Arising Women Place.

Arising Women Place is a Scarborough based organization working since 2000 with women and girls and the community to end violence against women and girls. Their mandate through their various programs and activities is to prevent, avoid and break the cycle of violence against women.

Unfortunately due to lack of funding and cutbacks they are in serious need of help and donations. They are especially in need of computers.

This is an important organization that not only helps the Scarborough community but also reaches out to all women and girls who may need guidance or help from violence or abuse.

All Canadian Self Storage located at 135 Beechgrove Drive in Scarborough is holding our second annual Halloween Celebration. It will be held on October 31st between 11:30am and 5:00pm. This year will be our biggest party ever. We will have treats for the kids, prizes for best costumes, a magic show and for our grand prize we are giving away a flat screen television to one lucky winner.

All Canadian Self Storage has always taken pride in being part of the community and proud to support charitable causes that need our help whenever possible. This is why during the month of October we are donating $5 from every new storage rental to Arising Women Place. Their goal, their promise is to end the cycle of violence against women and girls. During our Halloween Extravaganza All Canadian Self Storage will be having a silent auction where all the proceeds will go to Arising Women Place. Our goal is to raise enough money so that the organization will be able to buy much-needed new computers.

The Port Union Waterfront Festival

On Saturday June 13th All Canadian Self Storage had a mobile unit (booth) set up at the 2nd Annual Port Union Waterfront Festival. Over 5000 people attended the event which included rides and games for the kids, singing and dancing, hot dogs, etc.

It was a great day, not too hot or too cold. We met some wonderful people and families and we had a draw that netted the winner 100 Air Mile Reward Points.

Counciller Moeser and his wife told me that the event money raised was by all the generous sponsers who participated in the festival.

This was a great event with a great community and All Canadian Self Storage can hardly wait for next year's festival

Packing and Storage Tips

Packing Tips1. Make packing for storage easier on yourself by planning ahead.Start by listing all the items you're going to store and their approximates sizes. Also, gather up plenty of sturdy, corrugated cartons, packing paper, bubble wrap, sealing tape and marker pens, along with any furniture covers or shelving you intend to use in your storage unit.2. Pack as much as you can in the same size boxes.Fill boxes tightly, but take care to neither overpack nor underpack. (Bulging cartons tip when stacked, while half full boxes tend to collapse). Use wadded up newsprint, bubblewrap, rags, towels, or blankets to fill in empty spaces. For maximum protection seal cartons with tape.3. Pack heavy items such as books and tools in small boxes.For easier handling limit the weight of all cartons, regardless of size, to 30lbs. or less.4. Label all boxes.Clearly label boxes so you know their contents, and keep a list (as well as pictures and descriptions) at your home or office for reference. Mark clearly all boxes containing fragile items.5. Clean and dry appliances before storing.Secure all movable parts with paper, or wedge and wrap a paper pad around each item for protection. During transport tape all doors shut, but remember to wedge them open for storage.6. Tape or tie bed rails together.Mark the pieces for easier assembly later. Place covers or plastic bags on mattresses to keep them clean during storage.7. Pack books flat to protect their spines.Line cartons with plastic and fill empty spaces with packing paper.8. Use bureau drawers to store small, fragile items.Secure items in drawer by filling empty spaces with towels or packing paper.9. Protect chair legs by wrapping them in packing paper.Leave slipcovers on upholstered chairs and cover them with plastic chair covers.10. Hang clothes and draperies in wardrobe boxes.11. Use lots of paper to pack dishes and glassware.Place a layer of packing paper inside the bottom and top of cartons. Wrap each dish and glass separately and cushion them with crumpled paper. Plates are best stacked on edge.12. Pack lamps and lampshades in individual boxes.Use plenty of clean paper or clothing for padding.13. Pad mirrors and paintings with paper.Place them in special mirror packs or large boxes; mark boxesStorage Tips1. Store items you'll need most often at the front of the unit. 2. When you pack your storage unit, create a center aisle for access to all items. 3. Do not place boxes directly on concrete floors, but use pallets or skids to prevent moisture absorption. 4. If you're storing tables and other furniture, remove legs and store tabletops and sofas on end, to save space.
